The Android operating operating, is an open source code. This means that this program is allowed to be used freely and altered  if desired, and also distributed by any device manufacturer wireless carriers and developers that require to do so. This open source code and permissive licensing allows lots of developers to keep generating applications for the  Android OS to make the devices that uses it to be able to do more for the people that owns them.
