Since the arrival of Smartphones in 2009,
Nokia has not fared to well. The company had been hugely relying on its Symbian
platform that seams pre historic compared to features offered by Android and
iOS or any other platform of today. However the company's biggest gamble since
its inception i.e. opting for Windows mobile platform has done the, well. Their
high end phones ; the Nokia Lumia 920 and 1520 give tough competition to the
likes of iPhone and Samsung's galaxy series but Nokia is virtually nonexistent
in the mid or lower end market which is dominated by Htc and Samsung. To
capture share in the lower end smartphone market Nokia released the Lumia 620.
Review Nokia Lumia 620
The Nokia 620 is an excellent phone, a
crippled version of it's two bigger cousins the Nokia 920 and 1520. It may luck
the cutting edge feature of a high end feature phone but it wont make you feel
crippled for sure. We are going o look into its features in detail.
Form factor:
It
weighs just 127g and measures (
4.54x2.41x0.43 in). you can hardly feel it in your jeans' pocket which is quite
handy for a phone. The bezels around display are pretty thin and the device is
a joy to hold. The device comes in 6 attractive colors and is really well built
with matte finishing and definitely does not feel cheap. The controls are
pretty comfortable with easy to reach volume rocker buttons and camera button
on right and power on/off button on top. The micro sd slot and the sim slot are
beneath the back cover. The back cover also hides the 1300 mAh battery which does a decent joband gives 12
hours of backup on 2g connection.
Connectivity:
Features a micro sim with:-
- GENERAL 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
It also feature a class B Gprs with HSDPA,
21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band. A 3.0
Bluetooth and NFC completes the connectivity. The set offers almost evry type
of connectivity available.
Display:
The 620 features a 16M color display with a resolution of 480
x 800 pixels(246 ppi) which is brilliant for a phone of its caliber. The screen
displays vivid colus with deep black, thanks to Nokia's ClearBlack display
technology. The display qaulity is great even in bright sunlight.
Specifications:
The 620 is shipped with Windows phone 8
platform. The WP8 on Nokia Lumia phones is more attractive than other
phones with a number of noticeable
features. The worst thing about WP8 is a lack of apps but if you don't have a
big appetite for apps, you would find no reason to dislike the platform.
It runs on a Dual core 1 Ghz Krait
processor with Adreno 305 gpu and would run light and mild games without any
lag. The set also features a GLONASS A-GPS chip on board and a compass, accelerometer
and a proximity meter.
Camera:
The 5 megapixel autofocus camera on board
does well for a mid-range phone and captures decent stills at 2592x 1936
pixels. The LED flash illuminates
picture thoroughly. The camera also captures videos t 720p @30fps which is satisfactory. The
secondary Vga camera is great for video calls and obviously selfies.
Conclusion
The Nokia 620 is great mid range device and
fends of competition from the likes of htc 8s and galaxy ace series by
Samsung. A device that gives a complete
package in minimal price without
compromising on quality, the Nokia 620 is one of the best mid ra
